Cancer is a word we hear too often. People with a recent cancer diagnosis may not think to act quickly and arrange their eyebrow tattoo in advance of their treatment. Most Wig clinics and Hospital diagnostic units have our brochures on display to encourage you to act swiftly.
This prevents what a lot of people may dread - to lose your brows.
They frame our faces, and without them we look rather odd, and look sicker than we feel.
If your chemotherapy drug causes hair thinning you will may also lose your brows and lashes.
Hair falls out during chemotherapy due to a temporary disruption to the hair growth cycle.
Do not under any circumstances use an eyebrow growth serum without checking with
your Oncologist first.
Eyebrow tattoo is a safe treatment attended before chemotherapy, during chemotherapy
and after chemotherapy.

There is a transfer fee initially but once you become an exclusive client of ours, the annual Colour boost fee is tiered.
Fees and Health Insurance Claims
Medical Health Insurance Claims:
In July 2018, Laya Health Care introduced Microblading cover for its Cancer and Post Chemotherapy members who attend Browtique Ireland with Olive O’Sullivan and her affiliate nurses for their treatment.
The amount claimable varies by scheme.
All receipts are issued by email or hard copy.
Further claims on Med 1 form at the end of Tax year are awarded on a case-by-case basis.
Laya Healthcare benefit Jan 2023 covers up to €450.
VHI HEALTHCARE: covers €100 on certain plans .
GMA: very occasionally cover cancer chemotherapy clients, but it’s not clearly defined as yet.
IRISH LIFE HEALTH: have a benefit for eyebrow tattooing (including eyebrow microblading) following cancer treatment on some of their plans.
Their Eyebrow Tattooing benefit is covered under three plans - HealthGuide 2, HealthGuide 3 & HealthGuide 4 - up to different levels, and allows you to claim a contribution from Irish Life Health towards the cost of eyebrow tattooing (including eyebrow microblading) following or during cancer treatment once per policy year. As this benefit is classed as an outpatient benefit, it would not be subject to waiting periods.
PRISON OFFICERS INSURANCE issue €300 towards our fees for their members who have/had cancer .
Fees:
Keep your receipts and claim against your Med 1 form at year end.
You will be entitled to 20% of the total 2 step treatment back in your taxes.
This equates to approx. 120 euro.
If your insurance provider is Laya Health Care, you could be entitled to an annual rebate of €80-€450 depending on your plan.
If you attend annually for your Colour Boost ( €125 approx.), this almost fully covers the fees.
The other health funds have yet to follow suit, and we await a favourable response.

Cancer and Microblading
Olive trained with the European Institute of Permanent Makeup (EIPMU) and is a Registered Nurse. Olive has won the trust of GPs, Oncologists, Oncology Liaison nurses who refer their patients to her for Pre-Chemo prep. Certificate of Safety for blood borne pathogens are available for your perusal.
70% of our clients are about to have Chemotherapy at various stages. Clients who are about to commence a cycle of chemotherapy know they will lose their head hair. They are rarely prepared when they lose their brow hair. The trip to the hairdressers is planned, wig chosen, fab and funky head scarves tried on etc. the same prep is rarely done for the eyebrows!
Those little hairs over our eyes don't get a look in, and we don't realise how important they are until they are gone. Clients tell us that whilst they were prepared for head hair loss, it was the brow loss that upset them most. An Eyebrow Embroidery/Microblading treatment like this can be done up to a day before the Chemo commences.
How Microblading in Cancer Differs to Microblading for Beauty
Step 1 - Captures your existing eyebrow before you begin your treatment. There is very little adjustments done.
Step 2 - Reinforces the faded pigment strokes, PLUS fills in the gaps as your brow hairs fall out.
Step 3 - Brings it all together, reinforces all the faded pigments strokes, and you are good to go for a year before a touch up.
Brows are not a vanity thing; it is much more than that. They frame a face, and if lost can make you look sicker than you feel and at Browtique we know this.
Brows get thinner and thinner at each chemo cycle, and touch ups (also known as Colour Boosts) are necessary 6 monthly to yearly.
Our cancer chemotherapy clients are more than just clients- they become lifelong relationships.
The Benefits
The first pass of eyebrow tattoo before Chemo:
Microblading can been done the day before chemotherapy starts , but check with your Oncologist/oncology nurse that they approve.
Chemo treatments and mixtures change all the time, so ensure your Oncologist gives you the green light.
Most patients do not become neutropenic until after the second session of Chemo, thus reducing any infection risks. Healing has completed by then, and the skin is healed.
We can carry out the Microblading treatment up to a few days before treatment commences . Once chemotherapy commences you do not usually become neutropenic until 2 weeks after commencement day. However, we urge you discuss it with your medical professional.
The step 2 "Touch up" can be delayed to 6 weeks after chemo ceases:
Some Oncologists give permission to carry out the treatment during chemotherapy, but are very specific about the day it can be carried out- this is usually the case.
It is in a timely manner to coincide with your chemo treatment regime. We will endeavour to make that date work for you, and a COVER LETTER from your Oncologist, Oncology Liaison Nurse or GP will suffice.
We can not carry out the treatment without it.
No letter, no treatment.
A patch test is imperative and can be mailed out to you in advance with full instructions on how to attend to same.
We will offer you an appointment at one of our clinics, and do our utmost to ensure you get your treatment done before you begin treatment.
Medical Microblading
Ideally, we like to do Medical Microblading on clients before Cancer chemo happens. We tattoo over your existing brow, capturing its natural shape, so that when you lose your brow hair, the blueprint of what your brow once was is still there. We want you to look like you always did, but if we can improve your existing shape, we might even advise you.
Nurse Olive /Nurse Aislinn cover the West Cork clinic 6 days a week.
Nurse Debbie cover the Harold’s Cross clinic, Dublin on Mondays,Thurs, Fri., Sats . (Olive every 8 weeks,). Nurse Debbie also hosts a small clinic in Naas on varying days. Just email us for her clinic schedule.
Nurse Lorraine covers the catchment area of Limerick /Galway areas in her Limerick clinic on Weds afternoon and Sats.
